Suvarna Premium RNR 2 Year Old Rice is aged rice for households that like grains that cook up fluffy and separate. RNR is a widely eaten South Indian variety associated with the Rajendranagar paddy research programme in Telangana. Rice that has been stored and matured for around two years is often preferred because it tends to absorb water well and cook into light, non-sticky grains. It comes in a handy 2kg pack for everyday family cooking.
Aged rice is a favourite for dishes where every grain should stand apart. Use it for plain steamed rice with dal and ghee, sambar rice, curd rice, pulao, biryani-style rice dishes and fried rice. It is also a good choice for festive meals, when you want a consistent, fluffy result on the plate. Aged rice is also easy to portion and holds its shape well when reheated.
Wash the rice until the water runs clear and soak it for twenty to thirty minutes. Older rice usually absorbs a little more water, so add a small extra splash if you find the first batch slightly firm. Cook on medium heat with the lid on, then let it rest for five minutes before fluffing with a fork so the grains stay separate and light.
